God so loved the world that He gave His only Son
by John H. Dwiggins
Note: please get a Bible and read through the verses that I have referenced or quoted to understand for yourself, in the context, what God is saying. Ask God to reveal Himself to you as you read.

In the Bible, John 1:12 says: “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”. But how could someone become God’s child with no apparent price. You don’t get “something for nothing” do you? Certainly, there are some good deeds that must be done, or some price to be paid to enter God’s family.

The Bible does say that every person has sinned or rebelled against God: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23, “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Is 53:6a and thus is outside of God’s family and ready to be given the death penalty and judgment: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans 6:23 and “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment” Hebrews 9:27. Because of our actions done against God, a price must be paid, or something must be done to restore us to the “glory of God” or perfection that God requires, as mentioned in Romans 3:23.

Jesus Himself paid the ultimate price so that you could join God’s family: HIS LIFEBLOOD! “For you know that is was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” 1 Peter 1:18-19. He slowly shed his blood during a horrible, tortuous execution on a Roman cross. “And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!” Philippians s 2:8.

JESUS PRICE IS ENOUGH!!! Why would God require you to do anything else or pay any additional price to join His family, when He has already paid the ultimate price—HIMSELF? In fact, God tells us that His salvation is a free gift so that NO ONE could boast “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9.

1. YOU MUST REPENT OR TURN AWAY FROM DOING WHAT IS WRONG. “Peter replied ‘repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins’.” Acts 2:38-39
2. RECEIVE CHRIST: Open the door of your heart to Him: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” Revelations 3:20
3. BELIEVE IN JESUS’ NAME. Jesus comes from the Hebrew name Yeshua which means savior. Christ is Greek for the anointed one or the Messiah: God Himself, sent to save. John 1:12 summarizes steps 2 and 3 “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”
4. SUBMISSION TO THE FATHER OF THE FAMILY. Why would you want to join God’s family and not be willing to fill the special place the Father has for you in His family (Ephesians 2:10)? God also wants to give you His loving care (1 Peter 5:7), but you must take the initiative and cast your anxieties upon Him. Jesus is Lord or Master (2 Corinthians 4:5) and head of the Church or God’s family (Ephesians 5:23). Jesus expects you to learn His commands and keep them (John 14:21). He also expects you to follow Him and put to death your own ambitions and instead choose His goals for your life. (Luke 9:23).

You can do the aforementioned things by praying the following prayer, or a similar one, that God lays on your heart: “Heavenly Father, I confess that I have done many wrong things in my life and have ignored you in the past. I turn away from doing evil things. I now turn to you to accept your loving care for me, and fulfill the plan you have for me in your family. Jesus, I accept you into my heart and desire to follow you and accept your leadership. I believe that you died for me and that you are the Son of God, who came to save me. Thank you for saving me Jesus, and for bringing me into your family. Amen”.

Once you have completed the aforementioned adoption process you are entitled to the benefits of being in God’s family. Children in a family have the right to receive an inheritance. Since Jesus has already died for us, we can already receive some of the inheritance that God has for us. The following lists highlights a small portion of what God has for you NOW:
1. God’s pledge or down payment: the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13). God has sent His Spirit to live inside us! The advantages of this are many. A few of the things are: Assurance that you are a part of God’s family and that He is your Daddy! (Galatians 4:16). Power to live, as God wants you to: (Romans 1:8). Power to have a godly character or fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
2. Provision for your physical needs: Philippians 4:19, Matthew 6:33.
3. A special spiritual gift to help others in God’s family: 1 Corinthians 12:11.

To sum up, you won’t lack for anything you need to live the life that God has planned for you because if He’s already sacrificed His Son for us, won’t He give us everything else we need? (Romans 8:32) “He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?” Read Ephesians 1: 3 says “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realm with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”

Unlike earthly situations, as a son or daughter of God, you will receive the full portion of your inheritance not when someone else dies, but when you die. That’s when you will go to heaven, as Jesus said “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:2-3.
Jesus’ promise of eternal life is firm: “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes Him

Now that you are in God’s family, there are some beginning steps that you need to take.
1. Become baptized. Jesus gave this command in Matthew 28:19, and Peter repeated it in Acts 2:38. When you are baptized, you openly confess with your mouth that Jesus is your Savior and Lord and that you are not ashamed of Him, or being in His family. By going under the water and coming to the surface again, you symbolically identify with Jesus’ death for your sins, and His resurrection.
2. Join a local church and regularly get together and fellowship with those fellow Christians. Attend training sessions and classes at that church to help you grow as a Christian. In order to find a good local church, find one that emphasizes teaching and preaching the Bible. The section “FINDING A CHURCH” on the home page of the “FINDING GOD” topic will help you find good churches around the country that have strong, Biblical beliefs. If you live in the Fox Valley area of Wisconsin, you can attend Christ the Rock Community Church, in Menasha, Wisconsin.
3. Start reading the Bible. The topic “COMMUNICATING WITH GOD” has a section “STUDY BIBLES” which tells how to order some excellent study Bibles that will greatly increase your understanding of God’s Word.
